Battlestar Galactica Apollo's Journey #1 (Maximum Press)

While showing his grandson Cain some trick maneuvers in a Viper while flying through the rings of Saturn, Commander Cain scanned an approaching vessel on a direct course for earth.

Apollo and Starbuck led a boarding party and discovered the vessel to be of authentic Kobolian origin. They also discovered a human being in stasis. Once free, the human, Ares, identified herself as a survivor of the thirteenth tribe.
In truth, Ares was a specialized Cylon created to look and act exactly like a human being. Slowly gaining the trust of the humans, Ares prepared to enact Baltar's orders and destroy the Galactica from within.

After destroying the Galactica's temporal overdrive, Ares' real identity was discovered and Starbuck and Apollo cornered him in the Galactica's energizer control room. Ares was going to detonate a device what would destroy the Battlestar, so Starbuck lured him onto an escape pod and sealed the hatchway, trapped both him and Ares on board. Left with no alternative, Apollo jettisoned the pod and propelled Starbuck and Ares into deep space.

Despite their efforts, the search parties could find no trace of Starbuck or the pod and Apollo had no choice but to declare his friend killed in action...
